For today’s Geneabloggers theme of Tombstone Tuesday it is the grave of Eliza and Francis Farmbrough that I show here. Francis is the great grandson of my 6 x great grandfather Cozens Read and he shares this grave with his wife Eliza.
The wording is very difficult to see now but to me it looks like there could also be another Francis Farmbrough in the grave too, unless his description on the stone is as the husband of the late Eliza.
I thought it quite ornate with the book and flowers at the top, quite different from most of my ancestor’s graves. The Inscription reads (as best as I can see it!):
In Memory of
Eliza
(unreadable)
(unreadable)
Francis Farmbrough (I think this is probably saying Eliza is the wife of FF)
died December 31 1891
aged 85(?) years
(unreadable) Farmbrough
also of the above
Francis Farmbrough
died December 18 1904(?)
in his 99th year
(unreadable)
(unreadable)
It wasn’t until I was sorting this photograph out to add to this Tombstone Tuesday post, that I realised that I had no note of where this Tombstone was actually situated!! I checked my genealogical programme to see where Eliza and Francis had died but don’t show this!! This is partly because my old computer died and I fairly recently bought the one I am now using and have not finished adding all the ancestor details to my programme from the printed sheets I took of the programme on the old computer (I sensed it was not very well) and of course, this is a very laborious job and I am doing it in between sorting out all my other records!! So I do have the details, just not to hand as I write this!!

That would be Eliza Farmbrough (Nee Griffes), born March 1805 and died 31 December 1901. Her husband was Francis Farmbrough born 23 March 1806 and died 19 December 1904. They married on 17th November 1829

Hallo Dave, Many thanks for your email and I am so sorry that I haven’t been able to answer until today. Had really bad internet connection problems for a looooong time and only just managed to get back here today.
Thanks for the details about Eliza and Francis Farmbrough. I do have some of the details but they weren’t to hand when I added them to the Tombstone Tuesday item.
I take it as you are a Farmbrough also, then we are connected?
I will be happy to share whatever info I have with you just on case there is something you don’t have already about the Farmbroughs.
Kind regards,
Christine (rootsresearcher)

I would need to check my own photos, but I think this may be at Stone, as I recall one distinct tombstone, the others being relatively plain but having “ears”

Hallo Richard, When I posted this to the blog for Tombstone Tuesday, I didn’t have all my details with me so was unsure exactly where this tombstone was. But I can tell you, that according to my notes, we were at Simpson, Buckinghamshire when this was photograph was taken at the church there. I should do an update to this post now I have the details to hand!!
We went to Stone and I copied several Farmbrough Monumental Inscriptions there – this was done a number of years ago and I so regret not taking a photo of each tombstone!! I didn’t realise the importance of it at the time, so will have to go back to several places to take photos when we get the chance to travel to Buckinghamshire again.
Please keep in touch now we have found each other.
Kind regards,
Christine
