As you can trace your Reads back to Quainton, then we are definitely related!! I have done a lot of work on our Reads and I have traced our Reads back to Caversham, Oxfordshire to about 1640 with certainty. I have got back a little further to the 1500s but am still trying to prove the lines, but I am pretty sure they are our Reads.

I have found some Reads in Bedfordshire that may well be ours but again I’m still trying to find the proof. Again I’m pretty sure they are ours, but it has to be proved so we can say so with certainty. Many of our Reads are Dairymen, Yeoman Farmers, Farmers, and so on so they all seem to have followed mainly the same trade. Even many Reads I have found but not linked to yet are of the same trade!!

I shall look out for the book that your husband has found Reads in, I’m sure it will be very interesting.

Now we’ve found each other, please keep in touch. I’ve only just begun to read your history, I hope we are related as it looks like you would have done all the work for us. Linda has traced us back to the Quainton Read’s. My husband found referance to some Read’s in Hockliffe Bedforshire which is close to where we now live and not that far from Quainton. We come from Camden in London. If Linda and I find we are of the same family maybe we can meet up? My husband who is doing his own tree has found referance to some Read’s in a book called Ancestral Trails by Mark Herber. William Read 1728 and Michael Read 1779 both were “dairyman”of Hockliffe. Hope to hear from you soon. Pauline
